Twelve-year-old Sudhakar from Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, is being treated at the Minto Eye Hospital for a firecracker injury on Friday.
At least 49 persons suffered fire cracker-related injuries ranging from minor to serious burns during Deepavali celebrations in the last couple of days in the city.
The Minto Eye Hospital received nine cases on Friday of which four are serious. According to the doctors, among the four, two have partially lost their eyesight.
A 10-year-old boy lost sight in one of the eyes and is being treated for infection. When sparks from a cracker flew into his eye, 25-year-old Shahrukh lost sight in his left eye.
Four among the five patients who received treatment on Thursday, suffered serious injuries.
On Friday, Narayana Nethralaya received 31 cases among whom 15 are children and the rest adults and mainly passersby who sustained injuries. One-year-old Achintya, 2-year-old Vikas and 3-year-old Bhavani are the youngest who visited the hospital for treatment.
Chowdamma (65) had to be operated upon for severe injuries.
Cases might increase
Dr Ravi Dorairaj, medical director, Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, said, “We received two children with minor injuries. The numbers might increase in the coming days,” he added.
Dr Ramesh K T, plastic surgeon, Victoria Hospital, said the number of people with eye injuries had reduced this year. The hospital received only two cases of minor burns, he added.
