DMK President M Karunanidhi makes public appearance after a year, visits Murasoli office

CHENNAI: After remaining indoors for about a year now, DMK president and five-time chief minister M Karunanidhi made a surprise public appearance on Thursday when he visited party mouthpiece Murasoli’s office located at Kodambakkam here.

Accompanied by son and DMK working president M K Stalinand daughter Selvi, the veteran leader moved into the premises of Murasoli, which he considers as his first child, taking everyone by surprise.
His wheel chair rolled onto the hall where an exhibition marking the platinum jubilee of the daily, founded by Karunanidhi himself, was put up.

“Our leader visited the exhibition and viewed the exhibits,” a senior functionary of the party said.
The DMK patriarch spent a little more than 30 minutes on the premises of the party organ, where he used to visit as part of his daily schedule before remaining indoors since October last year.

Karunanidhi was admitted to a private hospital in December last year and underwent tracheostomy (hole in the wind pipe) to overcome acute breathing problems.

Failing health did not allow him to participate in a big event held to mark his diamond jubilee as a legislator. However, Karunanidhi continued to receive several political leaders at home.

Party cadre gathered outside Murasoli office and the Gopalapuram residence after hearing that he was making his public appearance after a year.
