Labourer tries to immolate self after tiff

Rajkot: A labourer tried to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze in Raiyyadhar area of Rajkot on Tuesday night.
Police said Umesh Rathod (30) doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze. "Our preliminary investigation has revealed that Rathod was a habitual drunkard and would fight with his wife frequently. On Tuesday night when he came home drunk, his wife picked up fight with him, and he beat her up, following which she went to lodge a police complaint against him. Fearing police action, Rathod attempted suicide," said an investigating official.
Rathod has been admitted to Rajkot Civil Hospital in serious co-ndition and is battling for life. tnn
