KANPUR: Recovery of a suspicious object following a call made by anonymous person triggered panic at Etawah railway station on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The police beefed up security and conducted massive search operation with the help of bomb disposal and dog squads in and around the railway station premises.
"Around 1am, the district police received a call informing that a bomb had been planted at platform no 5 of Etawah railway station. A massive search operation was conducted and later a suspicious object in a small polythene bag was recovered from the railway station. The police then alerted dog and Bomb disposal squad who arrived from Kanpur with measures for removing the polythene bag to an isolated place and diffusing it further," said additional SP Jitendra Kumar Srivastava.
In the meantime, visitors and passengers movement was barred, and trains that were about to reach platform no 5 were diverted to other platforms of the railway station.
The Bomb disposal squad then removed the bag to an isolated place and diffused it, the official said.
ASP further said, a tin box with a battery and wires in a small polythene bag was hidden near the platform no 5 of the railway station. "It did not contain any explosive which only indicates that someone tried to play a prank, however, we are yet to reach any final conclusion as the investigations are still underway," ASP said further.
The police is also conducting investigation to verify the caller's identity, he added.
