NEW DELHI: Equity benchmarks remained dull on the last trading session of the Samvat year 2073 on account of sustained selling across sectors.

The Nifty50 index closed Wednesday's session 24 points lower at 10,211, while the BSE Sensex closed 25 points down at 32,584.

In the Nifty50 index, Axis Bank remained the top loser, falling 10 per cent intraday. ICICI Bank, Bharti Infratel, Cipla, Tech Mahindra, State Bank of India, YES Bank and Asian Paints were the other top losers.

Among the gainers, Reliance Industries led, with gains of 5 per cent. It was followed by Power Grid Corporation, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Wipro and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Among the sectoral indices, Nifty PSU Bank index settled as the top loser, cracking over 2 per cent. Indian Bank, State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank were the top losers among the PSU bank stocks.

Barring FMCG, all other sectoral indices closed in the red on Wednesday. FMCG stocks such as Britannia Industries, Colgate Palmolive (India), United Breweries, ITC and Emami settled in the green on Wednesday.

As much as 84 stocks, including Ashok Leyland, Avanti Feeds, Bajaj Electricals, Hexaware Technologies, Hindalco Industries, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Jubilant Foodworks, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Petronet LNG, Tata Chemicals, Torrent Power and Vakrangee hit their fresh 52-week highs on NSE on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Dena Bank, Dynamatic Technologies, JMT Auto, Khaitan Electricals, Shriram EPC, TCPL Packaging, TV Vision and United Bank of India were among those 26 stocks that hit fresh 52-week lows.
