Market Now: Sensex, Nifty trade in red; Axis Bank cracks 7%

NEW DELHI: Equity benchmarks were trading in the negative territory at the start of the last trading session of the Samvat year 2073 today, hit by muted quarterly earnings by some bluechips and profit booking by participants at record levels.
The Nifty50 index was trading 39 points lower at 10,196, while the 30-share Sensex was 107 points down at 32,502 around 10.30 am (IST).

Among the losers Axis Bank (down 6.78 per cent) cracked up to 7 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank (down 3.69 per cent), Bharti Infratel (down 2.73 per cent), YES Bank (down 2.48 per cent), Zee Ent. (down 2.22 per cent), Cipla (down 2.18 per cent), Tech Mahindra (down 2.16 per cent) and State Bank of India(down 2.13 per cent).
On the contrary, shares of Reliance Industries (up 1.97 per cent), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) (up 1.58 per cent), Kotak Bank (up 1.41 per cent), PowerGrid (up 1.20 per cent), Wipro (up 1.14 per cent) and GAIL (up 0.95 per cent) were gaining in trade.
Over 50 stocks, including Ashok Leyland, Avanti Feeds, Bajaj Electricals, Hexaware Technologies, Hindalco Industries, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Jubilant Foodworks, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Petronet LNG, Tata Chemicals, Torrent Power and Vakrangee hit their fresh 52-week highs on NSE in Wednesday's morning trade, defying the bearish market stance.
On the NSE, 746 stocks were advancing, compared with 820 stocks declining and 404 stocks remaining unchanged.
