Even as the realisation of water in the Cauvery at Mettur dropped to 15,677 cusecs on Tuesday, the Public Works Department (PWD) stepped up discharge from Mettur dam for farm operations in the Cauvery basin to 20,000 cusecs. The discharge was stepped up from 16,000 cusecs to 20,000 cusecs at 9 p.m. on Monday, the PWD officials said.
This is the second time that the release has been stepped up since the sluices of the Mettur dam were opened for farm operations on October 2. Initially, 15,000 cusecs of water was discharged into the Cauvery from the Mettur Dam, and it was stepped up to 18,000 cusecs on October 12.
The PWD brought down the release to 16,000 cusecs on Saturday (October 14), which has been once again augmented to 20,000 cusecs.
The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 97.85 feet on Tuesday against its full level of 120 feet.
The storage level stood at 62.089 tmc against the dam’s full capacity of 93.47 tmc.
