Fourteen people including three women were arrested after they burst crackers outside the Supreme Court in open defiance on its order. The SC had banned the sale of firecrackers this Diwali or Deepavali in the National Capital Region.

The incident came a few hours after Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Bagga distributed crackers to slum kids in the Hari Nagar area of west Delhi. Bagga tweeted pictures of him distributing crackers and said that distribution did not amount to defiance of the SC order.
The SC had banned the sale of firecrackers and not its distribution, he said.
The Delhi police said that no action will be taken against Bagga as distribution did not amount to a crime. Bagga on the other hand argued that by banning firecrackers ahead of Diwali, you are just targeting a Hindu festival. Let the ban be implemented all round the year, he said.
