Youth jumps to death in city mall

CHENNAI: A 27-year-old engineering graduate allegedly killed self by leaping from the third floor of a shopping mall at Vadapalani on Tuesday afternoon after a heated argument with a woman who was accompanying him. The deceased identified as T Yuvaraj (27) of Vellore was working as a tutor. He had been living in his relative’s house at Saligramam for the past two years. Police said he was in a relationship with the woman, an IT professional.

“The girl, who had completed her BE computer science, worked in an IT company in Coimbatore. On Tuesday, the duo had met at a shopping mall at Vadapalani around 11 am. Last, the couple were spotted eating in the food court situated in the third floor of the mall around 2.45 pm. The duo were seen having a heated conversation, following which, Yuvaraj allegedly jumped off the third floor from a height of about 40 feet,” said the investigation officer.

The incident had been recorded in CCTV, which showed the man running fast towards the railing and jumping off the mall. He sustained severe injuries on his head. The staff at the mall rushed him to a private hospital in the same locality, where he was declared ‘brought dead.’

Police said the woman of Dindigul had come to the city along with her family to celebrate Deepavali in the city.

“Yuvaraj had completed his BE computer science in a college at Krishnagiri and worked as a project trainer. He visited colleges and helped students in the practical projects. During one such visit,  he met the woman and subsequently developed a relationship,” the officer said.

Police suspect the couple to have had differences of opinion and Yuvaraj took the extreme step due to it.
A case has been registered and investigation is on.
