Rajesh and Nupur Talwar have refused remuneration for the dental services they provided to patients inside the district prison, where they have been incarcerated since 2013 in connection with the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case, according to jail officials.

The Talwars were acquitted by the Allahabad High Court on October 12.

Spurt in patients

Jail authorities said there was a spurt in the number of patients who were “in a hurry” to get their treatment done from them. Jail Superintendent Dadhiram Maurya said the amount would have been ₹49,500.

Jail authorities stated that the Talwars had been attending to patients since November 2013, soon after they were put behind bars.

On Friday, when the couple had hoped to be freed but were not since their release orders did not reach the prison, Mr. Talwar was said to have seen 40 instead of the usual 20 patients, while his wife spent time with the children of inmates at the jail creche.
