The relentless agitation by farmers of Vemulaghat would be reaching the 500-day mark on Tuesday, probably the longest after the formation of Telangana. The village is located in Toguta mandal.The farmers of this village have been demanding implementation of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act β 2013 and have rejected the offers made under GO 123 and the latest LA Act 2016 (Telangana Amendment). The agitators are preparing to organise the event in a grand manner and are inviting different organisations.
Meanwhile, the district administration would be conducting a Grama Sabha in the village panchayat office on October 21.
Special Deputy Collector, Kaleswaram Project, in a notice issued on October 13, informed that it was proposed to acquire 1,656.08 acres from Vemulaghat village and that the primary notification was issued on July 30, 2017, and was published in two regional newspapers. The Grama Sabha is being conducted as per the assurance given to the High Court by the State Government.
βThe notification was issued to pay compensation under Section 11(1) of Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act β 2013. The Grama Sabha is being conducted under Section 11(2),β said the notice.
The officials were directed to make announcements about the Grama Sabha in the village.
