Samvat is in, and Tuesday, the auspicious day of Dhanteras, there was practically everything that investors and D-street assumed for a bumper trading session. But rather than a 200 point gain, the Sensex ended on a 24.48 point or 0.08% loss on Tuesday.

Most analysts including ICICI securities and Angel Broking had forecast a flat rout in the pre-morning session.

On the Sensex, Cipla (up by 4.09%), Bharti Airtel (2.86%), Asian Paints (2.06%), Bajaj Auto (1.09%), and Hero Motocorp (0.85%) were the gainers.



It was not surprising to see Bajaj Auto pick up a great September result that matched most analyst expectations. HDFC analysts. The stock has a buy rating from HDFC securities.

The losers in the session were majorly Axis Bank (down by 1.77%), and Tata Motors( 1.04%) in the red.

On the broader side, the small cap index peaked to an all time high in the trading session. The Small Cap Select Index was up with a 0.55% intra-day gain. Large Caps were up at 0.07%, while only the Sensex ended in the negative.

Sectoral stocks such as basic materials and telecom could maintain the momentum. Telecom was leading the pack with an average gain of 2.77%.

Telecom giant Idea was leading the gainers table, with a 8.37% change, and followed by Vakrangee Software (7.33%).

Banking stocks fared poorly with a 0.24% loss, while IT stocks too had a hard day with an average loss of 0.24%.

The Nifty50 ended the day in the positive with a 3.60 point gain to end at 10234.45.
