Pradhan Mantri Mudra Scheme campaign inaugurated

The Union government has sanctioned two educational training institutes to Dakshina Kannada — an entrepreneurship training centre and a branch of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology. This was announced by Union Minister of State for Skill Development Ananthkumar Hegde on Monday. He was speaking after the inauguration of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Scheme campaign, wherein several participating banks participated.

Offering a wider definition to skill, Mr. Hegde said it is not just limited to getting jobs, but expands to the whole sphere of life.

As Dakshina Kannada is known for people with high entrepreneurship attitude, his Ministry is ready to set up an entrepreneurship training institute to prepare successful entrepreneurs.

“You need not have any concrete plans; come to us, we will prepare you for life [through the institution],” he said.

Meanwhile, referring to the point made by his senior Cabinet colleague, Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, who earlier had announced that the government would give in-principle approval to the Plastics Park in the district, Mr. Hegde said a park would not be enough to provide employment to people in the region. People in the region need to be thoroughly trained and a branch of Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, which is under the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gases, is required.

Both Chemicals and Petroleum Ministries have agreed to set up one in Dakshina Kannada, Mr. Hegde said and added otherwise people from outside the region would grab the available job opportunities in the park. Mr. Ananth Kumar had earlier said the park would provide employment to at least 30,000 people even as about 36 companies have evinced interest to open their shops. Earlier, beneficiaries of Mudra scheme were handed over loan cheques by both the Ministers. Mr. Kateel and others were present.
