Mumbai: The markets saw both BSE Sensex as well as Nifty50 record fresh highs on Samvat 2073, the first day of the Diwali week. The Monday morning session had seen a 200 point rally for the Sensex, by mid-noon there was a little fear if the Sensex might have ended flat, but post 3:00, the markets regained.

The Nifty traced a fresh high of 10236.55 while the Sensex raced off to 32662.96.

By the end of trading hours, the meter read a 63.40 point or 0.62% gain for the Nifty 50 at 10230.85. The thirty scrip sensitive Sensex managed 200.95 points or 0.62% to end at 32633.64.



On the Sensex, Bharti Airtel (up by 4.96%), M&M (3.08%), Tata Motors (2.85%), Hindustan Unilever (2.63%), SunPharma (2.52%), and Cipla (2.42%) were the top scrips . Axis Bank was bleeding the most with a loss of 1.65% in intra-day trading.

On the broader side, midcap stocks made a gain of 0.52% while smallcap index was up by 0.30%. The top 5 volume toppers were Reliance, Wipro, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports and Tata Motors.

Overall the sun shone brightly with nearly 130 scrips registering fresh 52 week highs.

Reliance Industries ended the day in the negative, but also posted a fresh 52 week high of 891.70. Airtel registered a 21.40 point gain, besides posted a fresh high of 457.40.

Our opening and half-time reports had suggested telecom stocks pickinn up the lead, and this continued to the "T" by end of day too., Telecom was up by 4.23%, while Metal (2.02%), Healthcare (1.24%), BSE Teck (1.23%), Auto (1.19%), Realty (1.07%), and basic materials (1.02%) aided the gain.

Power (down by 0.13%) and Finance were the most affected in the session. Banking stocks pared losses in order to arrive at a 0.01% gain, but during our half-time report we had reported how besides Kotak Mahindra, most other financial stocks were bleeding in the red.

JM Financials (up 9.09%), Oberoi Realty (7.18%), Federal Bank (6.48%) were among the top gainers.

Godrej Agrovet was listed today, and saw a bumper volume turnover. The listing saw it end at 595.55, a 25 point dip, but still 135.55 points above its premium price.
