Triumph Motorcycles India has launched the RS version of the Street Triple at a price of Rs.10.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Pan India). This is the second variant of the new-generation Street Triple to be launched in the country after the standard Street Triple S was launched earlier this year. To be following the CKD route, it will be pitted against Ducati Monster 821 and the Kawasaki Z900 in India.
Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt. Ltd. commented “The new Triumph Street Triple RS is a force-machine that delivers in terms of performance and style. It is the most explosive and adrenaline-charged Street Triple ever. It’s built to be at home on the track, and a weapon on the road. We are the fastest growing premium space right now in the country. India is our focus market and we will keep on bringing in new models into the country.”
The Street Triple RS is powered by a 765cc engine which churns out 123 PS of peak power at 11,700 rpm and generates a peak torque of 77 Nm at 10,800 rpm. Linked to the ride-by-wire system, it features five riding modes i.e. Road, Rain, Sport, Rider Programmable and Track. It is equipped with Brembo brakes, updated 41 mm Showa big piston forks at the front along with an Ohlins monoshock suspension at the rear.
The British heavyweight bikemaker also rolled out ‘Showroom on Wheels’ that will travel across tier-2 towns in north India. The company has so far sold around 4,500 units across 14 showrooms in India and is now firming up plans to expand sales network in the country by opening three more dealerships at Goa, Mangalore and Gurgaon. It will also look to increase local assembly of models at its plant in Manesar.
Commenting on the sales performance, Sumbly said the company posted retail sales growth of 27 per cent in the July-September quarter. “The premium segment (500cc and above) during the same period registered a de-growth of 23 per cent,” Sumbly noted.
Triumph, which entered India in 2013 with ten models, now has 17 models across five categories in its entire lineup.
