A three-day exhibition and sale of Mysore silk saris from the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) began here on Saturday. Neela Manjunath, Managing Director, KSIC inaugurated the exhibition at Hotel Vijayentra on Kamaraj Salai.
A KSIC official said that crepe, georgette, plain printed saris, silk tops, scarves and ties are on display. The saris were made of finest natural silk yarn obtained from cocoons reared in the old Mysuru region.
According to a release, the traditional method of manufacturing and the twist pattern adopted in weaving the fabric gives the saris a grainy feeling. Mysore silk is the best crepe silk available in the country and the zari used in Mysuru silk had a gold content of 0.65% and silver content of 65%
From ₹14,000 to ₹1 lakh
KSIC had obtained Geographical Indication Registration for Mysore Silk in accordance with the provisions of the Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection Act) 1999 passed by Parliament. Saris, with price tags ranging from ₹14,000 to ₹1 lakh are on display at the exhibition.
