Indore: The engineering student of Sri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Science and Technology, Ujjawal Choure, who had been battling for life after a tree fell on him on the institute campus, has recovered and gearing up to celebrate Diwali with his family at Bhopal.
“Thousands of students and faculty members of the institute were praying for his fast recovery. Their prayers have been granted. Ujjawal would be discharged from CHL Hospital on Monday and he would directly go to his home in Bhopal for Diwali,” said director of SGSITS, RK Saxena.
On September 26, a dead tree on the campus suddenly fell on him when the BE second year student was walking to his classroom after finishing one in a teaching department, injuring him seriously. Ujjwal was rushed to hospital with serious wounds in his head and spinal cord. Due to blood clotting in his brain, he later went into coma. However, with the help from college management, friends and many others who came forward with financial help, lately surgery was performed on him, which emerged successful, giving him a fast recovery.
“His classmates had collected the funds so that money does not become an obstacle in his treatment. Initially, it was estimated that about Rs 6 lakh would be required for his treatment but the expenditure in the end stood at Rs 4 lakh. However, the students finally mobilised about Rs 10 lakh,” Saxena said.
The remaining amount they had deposit in the institute requesting to make a fund for treatment of students injured in mishaps. “With the amount, we will create a corpus for treatment of students injured in accidents. The institute and alumni will contribute funds to the corpus,” he added. The SGSITS had contributed RS 2.5 lakh in the treatment of Ujjawal.
