HYDERABAD: After a series of suicides by students studying in corporate colleges sent shock waves across the state, a girl pursuing long-term coaching at Narayana junior college went missing on Sunday. The 18-year-old student Sai Prajwala has accused her college of being a ‘painful’ educational institution that ‘kills students to study’.
Prajwala was admitted by her parents to Narayana junior college at Nagole in LB Nagar to undergo long-term coaching. However, she was not too interested in pursuing the course. Prajwala appeared upset when her father dropped her back at the hostel after Dussera vacations. The college principal held an intervention and Prajwala informed that she was not interested in continuing. Her uncle was called to take her back home. The girl is reported to have gone missing from her uncle’s house in Medipally on Wednesday at around 11 am.
In a letter left behind for her family, Prajwala expressed grief and said she would miss them. She also alleged that the college management was troubling residential students to study all the time. The letter recovered from Laxmi Narayana’s house read: “ They are killing students to read. Please help the other students from Narayana, they are suffering in this college hostel. Close the college.”
Prajwala, a student pursuing lont-term coaching at Narayana junior college, went missing on Wednesday from her uncle’s house. She left behind a note indicating she was under severe stress. A complaint was lodged with the Medipally police on the same day by her parents.
“We suspect there’s something fishy about the college,” said the student’s father. “Are they harassing students or pressuring them for ranks, no student is complaining openly. My daughter was never like this. She only asked us to send her to hostel, but suddenly went missing.”
Medipally SI K Kishan said as Prajwala told principal she could not stay anymore in hostel, she was sent home with her uncle. The next day, she went missing.
“For the last four days, we have been searching for the girl. She carried `2,000 with her while leaving home. Her parents are suspecting that she could have gone to Shirdi in Maharashtra. Except a video footage of her leaving the house with a bag to her shoulder, no clues have been found. She did not even called her parents,” said Kishan.Protesting the increasing number of suicides by college students, the ABVP announced a bandh on Monday.
