NOIDA: Noida Authority chairman and CEO Alok Tandon on Monday said that a total of Rs 651 crore will be spent in the financial year 2017-18 to repair roads, for maintenance of drains, construction of community centres and installing streetlights.

According to officials, the move comes following repeated complaints from residents about the abysmal state of stormwater drains and lack of community centres.

"We have got an in-principle approval from the chairman to carry out the repair and maintenance works in the city," said H S Yadav, chief project engineer, Noida Authority.

"A survey was carried out by all the 10 work circle project engineers. They identified the areas, which need to be addressed including resurfacing of roads. This was told to the chairman, who has given us the go ahead," said Yadav.

Yadav further said 472 works will be carried out across the sectors of the city.

"We will soon make out estimates and then float tenders for the works to be carried out. While 133 works for resurfacing and repairs of roads will be carried out in 82 sectors, all roads which are four years old or older will be repaired at a cost of Rs 308 crore. For repairing, construction and maintenance of drains, community centres and village development, we will carry out 106 works at a cost of Rs 154 crore and Rs 189 crore will be spent on repairs related with electrification and streetlights in the city," he added.
