Porter goes missing in Rajouri, FIR registered against Army

An Army porter has gone missing from the Rajouri area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the police to register a case against the based on a complaint by his family, an official said.

Safeer Ahmed was reported missing from near the in Rajouri two days ago, Senior Superintendent of Police Yogal Manhas told PTI.


While there was an entry recorded for Ahmed at the fencing gate ahead of the border fencing, there was no record of his exit, he said.

The SSP said an FIR was registered following a complaint by his family alleging that Ahmed was abducted by the Army and forced to work for them.

The Army's engineering department has filed a separate complaint with the police on Ahmed going missing.

The SSP made it clear that the BSF has no role in the matter. The area near the is manned jointly by the Army and the BSF.

After initial investigation, an FIR was registered by the Rajouri Police over various charges, including wrongful confinement for three or more days, against the 2 Sikh Light Infantry Unit and 57 Engineering Regiment.

Sources said Ahmed, who belongs to Pathana Tir village ofMendhar Poonch, was brought along withother labourers to forward defence location (FDL)for building a bunker (Morcha) by the Army's engineering regiment on August 14 in Keri sector of Rajouri.

When contacted, an Army officer said he was not aware about it and will check the details.
