GURUGRAM: A 35-year-old woman, who was arrested by the Gurgaon police on Saturday for allegedly selling firecrackers in Rajiv Nagar area, was granted bail on Monday. The Supreme Court earlier banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR till November 1, well after the Diwali festival.
Police recovered more than 100 packets of firecrackers worth Rs 25,000 from the shop owned by the woman. She was produced in a city court on Sunday and sent to judicial custody. The city court granted her bail on Monday.
The police are keeping a check against the illegal sale of firecrackers in the city. While patrolling the Sector 14 area on Saturday evening, the police got a tip-off that a woman, who owned a cosmetic shop in the Rajiv Nagar area, was also selling firecrackers.
A police team was formed to look into matter and a constable was sent as a fake customer to her shop. The woman sold firecrackers to the constable in disguise. After getting a signal from the constable, the police team caught the woman red-handed and arrested her.
The accused woman has been identified as Laxmi Devi, a resident of Rajiv Nagar.
On the complaint of ASI Narpat, an FIR has been registered against the woman under Sections 4 and 5 of Explosive Substances Act and Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC at Sector 14 police station.
The woman was produced before a duty magistrate on Saturday evening and sent to judicial custody. On monday, her lawyer filed a bail application in the city court and she was granted bail.
"As per the direction of Supreme Court, our teams are conducting checks in the entire area. The arrested woman has a cosmetic shop but she was also selling banned firecrackers. We arrested her but she was granted bail from court," said inspector Bhartendra Singh, SHO, Sector 14 police station.
