KHAMMAM/MANCHERIAL/NALGONDA: As heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in the state, six persons — all youngsters and children — drowned at various parts of the state on Sunday. Also, three others went missing after they were washed away while taking a bath in river Godavari at Mancherial district.

In the first incident, a sister and brother drowned in Nagarjunasagar left canal near Manchikanti Nagar colony in Khammam town. Police said Manda Manasa (6), a class III student and her brother Manoj (5),a class II student, went to Nagarjunasagar left canal near their house and accidentally fell into it.

In the second incident, three boys aged between 8-13 years, drowned in a water body at Kottur K village in Kohir mandal, Sangareddy district. The trio — Shiva Kumar, Praveen and Avinash — were playing and made a clay idol of Lord Ganesha. When they went to immerse the idol, they drowned. Apart from these children, a youngster met his watery grave in Musi reservoir in Nalgonda. V Naresh (20), a resident of Nemikal village, Suryapet district, had gone to Musi dam to see the release of water. He accidentally fell and drowned. In Mancherial district, three youths went missing after they were washed away while taking bath in Godavari near Mulkalla village in Hazipur mandal. Manda Anil (18), M Venu (17) and Mahesh (18) were taking a bath when the water suddenly rose due to rainfall.

Two women struck by lightning
