GURUGRAM: Two months after the MCG and Ecogreen Energy Pvt Ltd — a private agency hired for waste management — inked a pact, the corporation on Sunday began the awareness and education programmes across 35 wards in the city.
Kicking off the programme, MCG joint commissioner Anu Sheokhand addressed the residents of ward number 1 to 8 and explained the process that will be used under the new waste management plan. The residents were told about the two ways of waste segregation which follows the door-to-door waste collection.
"People across the city have multiple apprehensions about the upcoming waste management plan primarily because they are unaware. Hence we will be talking to the residents across 35 wards and educate them," said Sheokhand.
Ecogreen officials informed the residents that they have started the waste management at Bandhwari from September 21. "We will use a specific kind of bio-culture to reduce the stink from the landfill," said Satish Khurana, project head, Gurgaon and Faridabad waste management project.
He further added that the door-to-door collection is likely to start this December followed by leachate treatment which is likely to start in January 2018.
Talking about the market areas where bulk waste is generated, Khurana said recurrent trips will be made by the waste pick-up trucks to ensure that the waste doesn't pile up.
"The session helped us understand that we need to be supportive of the whole initiative if we want a clean city. A few hiccups are bound to be there, however eventually it will all be for the city's benefit," said Narayan Agarwal, RWA memeber of Sector 17-C.
