Monitoring officer takes stock of dengue situation

Tirupur: Fisheries and dairy secretary K Gopal, who is also the district monitoring officer, took stock of dengue fever effects in the city on Monday.
According to sources, 225 out of 1,007 people tested positive for dengue in the Tirupur Government Hospital so far this year. Among them, three became critical and were referred to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where they died later.
Gopal, accompanied by district collector KS Palanisamy and corporation commissioner M Ashokan, visited 17 patients, who were admitted for dengue fever in the hospital. He also inspected a private hospital near the New Bus Stand and met dengue affected patients.
The officials also inspected the anti-dengue measures carried out in high risk areas in the city, including Mumoorthi Nagar and Venkateshwara Nagar in ward 19 and ward 44 respectively. He had a chat with the residents and checked if they were aware about the deadly fever.
Gopal wanted the authorities to maintain a record of the patients even after they recovered from the fever. People should join hands with the authorities to eradicate dengue, he said.
