Petrol AMT Dzire almost as popular as manual variant; Dzire diesel waiting period hovers around 8-10 weeks.

The new Maruti Dzire, since its May 2017 launch, has been in high demand and has recorded total sales figures of 91,790 units until August 2017, based on data from SIAM. The waiting period for Maruti’s popular compact sedan is currently around 12 weeks for the petrol engine model. The waiting period for the diesel versions is eight weeks currently.

Available in eight variants – LXi, LDi, VXi, VDi, ZXi, ZDi, ZXi+ and ZDi+ – the Dzire LXi and LDi are the only ones that miss out on the optional AMT gearbox. Dealers have mentioned that the waiting period has gone up to three months and confirmed that the top-spec ZX+ trim and the mid-spec V trims see the highest demand. The manual option commands greater demand but Maurti has managed to sell a significant number of AMT versions as well.

The Dzire is offered in six exterior finishes, of which Arctic White, Oxford Blue and Magma Grey are the most asked for shades. In terms of equipment, the V variant comes standard with a rear centre armrest, rear AC vents and steering-mounted controls for the audio system, while the top-spec additionally gets LED projector headlamps with daytime running lamps, the Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system and a rear parking camera.

The compact sedan is available in two engine options – the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 75hp, Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel. Both engines are available with a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual transmission. The demand for the petrol versions, particularly the petrol-automatic is more than that of the diesel engine models.

Maruti’s Dzire leads the compact sedan segment by a very large margin in terms of sales.  Its rivals, the Hyundai Xcent (14,915 units), Honda Amaze (7,357 units), Ford Aspire (7,017 units) and the Volkswagen Ameo (5,573 units) sold far less during the May-August 2017 period.
