Market Now: Bank stocks fall; Axis Bank declines 2%

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Bankex index was trading 0.16 per cent down at 27,701 around 01:45 pm (IST) in Monday's trade.

Axis Bank (down 1.87 per cent), IndusInd Bank (down 1.61 per cent), Punjab National Bank (down 1.18 per cent), Bayer Cropscience (down 0.58 per cent), YES Bank (down 0.57 per cent), State Bank of India (down 0.26 per cent) and Bank of Baroda (down 0.25 per cent) were trading in the red.

However, shares of Federal Bank (up 3.50 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 0.95 per cent) and ICICI Bank (up 0.57 per cent) were trading up.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 33 points at 10,201, while BSE Sensex was up 89 points at 32,522.

Among the 51 stocks in Nifty index, 33 were trading in the green, while 17 were in the red.

Shares of JP Associates, South Indian Bank, City Union Bank, Reliance Comm, Idea Cellular, Federal Bank, Unitech, Wipro, JSPL, Bombay Dyeing, Suzlon Energy, IDFC were among most traded securities on the National Stock Exchange.

On the BSE, 1,254 stocks were advancing whereas 1,332 stocks were lagging and 121 stocks were appearing unchanged.
