Move against recent metro fare hike

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers and supporters gathered outside Bharatiya Janata Party MP Maheish Girri’s residence to protest against the recent Metro fare hikes.

Ongoing protests

This was part of the ongoing satyagrah started by the party against the fare hikes. In the second phase of the protests, the AAP volunteers have been organising peaceful gatherings outside the homes of the seven BJP MPs in Delhi.

On Saturday, the gatherings started outside the residence of Union Minister Harsh Vardhan.

“The supporters gathered outside Mr. Girri’s home and presented him a bouquet of flowers and flower pots. We also asked him why the BJP was turning a blind eye to the miseries of the common people by mindlessly increasing metro fares,” said an AAP supporter who was part of the protest.

‘Message to BJP’

AAP Delhi convenor Gopal Rai said the Gandhigiri style of protests were a message to the BJP that the AAP was with the people of Delhi and will go to any length to safeguard their interests.

“The same people who voted the BJP to power are suffering now because of their decision to benefit some corporate houses. This move has also affected the safety of poor women in the city because they are being forced to take the bus instead of the safer metro as they can no longer afford the new fares,” said Mr. Rai.

In the coming days, protests will be organised outside the homes of Udit Raj, Ramesh Bidhuri, Pravesh Verma, Meenakshi Lekhi and Manoj Tiwari.
