Woman hatches conspiracy to get even with ex-lover
tnn | Oct 16, 2017, 04:00 ISTRajkot: A history-sheeter was arrested on Sunday for allegedly extorting money from a resident of Chandreshnagar main road on Saturday. Police have recovered a pistol worth Rs 10,000 and two live cartridges from the accused identified as Abhijit Chaterji alias Babathakur (36).
However, the main culprit in this case, according to the special operation group (SOG) officials, is the ex-flame of the victim, Ronak Parmar (27), a resident of Purnima Society-6.
"Parmar had an affair with Priti Rathod, a resident of Subhashnagar on Raiyya Road. When Rathod insisted on marriage, Parmar broke off the relationship. Harbouring a grudge against Parmar for this, Rathod contacted her friend Babathakur, a resident of Manjuka Housing Quarters, and hatched a conspiracy for extortion," said an SOG official of Rajkot police.
On Saturday, Babathakur and Rathod accosted Parmar near his resident, where brandishing the pistol, Babathakur asked Parmar to pay up Rs 50,000 as extortion money. He also issued a death threat to Parmar, if he failed to pay up the amount. After this, Parmar approached police, leading to Babathakur's arrest. Police have also booked Rathod for extortion and conspiracy. However, she is yet to be apprehended.
Babathakur is an ex-Army man. He was court-martialed for firing at his senior officer. He was also earlier arrested for opening fire on one Vanrajsinh Darbar in Rajkot and possessing an illegal firearm.
