Udaipur: Under the ongoing special Diwali vigilance, to check adulteration in eatables, the food safety cell of the medical and health department on Sunday seized a large stock of spurious milk cake from a godown in Bhupalpura area of the city.

The spurious sweets had been transported from Alwar and were meant to be locally supplied to sweet sellers here. Anil Bharadwaj, the food safety inspector and his team suddenly raided the godown owned by one Lalit Manwani. Initially, Manwani denied that the stock was his but on thoroughly being questioned he admitted that it belonged to him.

Manwani runs a firm named Lalit Enterprises at Mandi ki Naal inside the Walled City area in Udaipur. According to sources, the consignment had come from Alwar in six boxes which contained a mixture of refined and soybean oil. Whether some other things have been mixed would be only known after the samples are sent for laboratory testing, Bharadwaj said. Legal action would be initiated once the adulteration is proven in the lab, authorities said.
