Acting on a war footing to tackle spread of dengue: CM

PUDUKKOTTAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday appealed to people to co-operate with the State government in its efforts to control dengue. Speaking at the MGR birth centenary celebrations in Pudukottai, Palaniswami said the government was taking the best measures possible to control spread of fever.

“The government is working towards eradicating dengue and the Health department is seriously working to control the spread of dengue. All State-run medical institutions have been equipped with the necessary equipment, beds and medicines. The public should extend support to officials so that the vector-borne disease is eradicated,” he said.

Further, Palaniswami said that he would rather concentrate on the welfare of the masses than replying to false propaganda of the Opposition. “Governments usually face two types of problems- one is natural calamities such as flood, cyclone and diseases; the other politically motivated problems. We don’t have time to respond to every false propaganda by Opposition parties. The people of the State have faith in us and they understand the situation. ” he said.

With samba season on, Palaniswami sought to allay concerns of farmers and said there was enough stock of seed and fertilizer with the government. Further, he assured farmers that an announcement on fresh crop loans would be made soon.

Turning his attention to the welfare schemes for Pudukkottai, the Palaniswami announced that a satellite township would be established at Mullur. Further, Ponnamaravathi and Iluppur will be upgraded as municipalities after they fulfil eligibility norms.

Additional classrooms and science lans would be built in KKC government women’s college, HH The Rajah’s government college, and government B Ed college in Pudukkottai.
Besides, ghat roads would be laid in Viralimalai and bridges would be constructed at Perumanadu, Vallathirakkottai, Vandakkottai, Ponnamaravathi, Vaithur area, Palaniswami announced.

Road overbridges would be constructed at Thiruvappur, between Vellanur and Pudukkottai railway stations, and Karuvappilan gate. Bridges would be constructed between Perumanadu and Konaiyur, Vaniyampatti- Maniyampallam, Vallathirakkottai to Vandakkottai,  Thirunallur to Viralimalai, Avudaiyarkoil to Okkur, Muthuvalakkudi to Pattamudaiyan road,  Thirukkattupalli to Sengippatti, Keelanilaikkottai to Usilampatti,  Ponnamaravathi to Ulagampati, Kottaikkadu, Nilaiyur to Eripurakkarai, he added.

Among those who spoke on the occasion included deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, Assembly Speaker P Dhanabal, Health Minister Dr C Vijya Baskar, and chairman of Tamil Nadu Housing Board PK Vairamuthu.

As many as 71 schemes, worth `646.92 crore, were declared open by the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday. These include the Cauvery Comprehensive Drikning Water Project, implemented at `617.20 crore. around 10 lakh people in 3,000 villages of the district would benefited from the scheme.
