Yaa Gyasi

Gyasi won the National Book Critics Circle award for best new book and the PEN/Hemingway Award for best new fiction book for “Homegoing,” about two half-sisters, one sold as a slave, the other married to a British slaver. She’ll be at Butler University as part of its visiting writers series for a free reading and discussion. Oct. 16 Schrott Center for the Arts Details

“The Originalist”

Polarizing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia is the subject of John Strand’s play, which pits Scalia against a liberal clerk in a play that, in previous productions, has impressed critics by being surprisingly funny—and not alienating to those on either side of the political aisle.
