DCP (north-east) Girish S hands over the rescued one-year-old to his parents on Friday | Express

BENGALURU: Kothanur police on Friday rescued a year-old toddler from kidnappers and arrested four persons, including a woman in connection with the case.  Cops opened fired on one of the accused after he attacked them with a knife.  Two police officials were injured.

The arrested persons are Mohammed Noorulla (23), Ishaq Khan (19), Abdul Wahid (24) from Govindapura in K G Halli and Shehnaz Khanum (36), a resident of Bharathi Nagar.
Police said: “Noorullah attacked the head constable Abdul Hameed and Sub-Inspector (SI) Shivappa Naiker. SI Hariyappa shot at Noorullah’s leg and nabbed him.” Norullah is recovering in a hospital while the rest of the accused are in police custody.

According to police, the couple Dhoddabheemaiah and Maheshwari’s year-old child Abhiram was kidnapped on October 5 around 2 pm when he was playing near their house. A case was registered and special teams were formed to nab the accused.

The police said that there were no eyewitnesses or CCTV camera footage to be had. The only information they got was that somebody in the area was roaming around in a white TVS Apache bike from 9 am to 2 pm. This input led to the police investigating and learning that it was Noorullah and two others who had been visiting the area on the motorcycle.

Around 7.30 pm on Thursday, police arrested Ishaq and Wahid from Tannery road whereas Noorullah managed to escape. The arrested persons confessed to the police that they had helped kidnap the child at Noorullah’s bidding. He had given the baby to Khanum. Police arrested Khanum and questioned her. The child was taken from Khanum and put in the care of the cops before being handed over to the parents.  Police learnt that Norullah had been spotted near Reva College in Hedge Nagar around 4 am. When the police tried to arrest him, he attacked them with a knife injuring  two cops. Norullah was shot in his leg and arrested.

He did it for girlfriend’s mother

Police said that Noorullah had kidnapped the child for his girlfriend’s mother. He was in love with Shehnaz Khanum’s daughter. Khanum’s first husband had died and she had married Fairoz Khan from Gowripalya. Fairoz rarely visited home and did not give her any money. She thought that her husband might come home everyday if he had a son to visit. Khanum who knew of her daughter’s relationship with Norullah asked him to “get her a male infant.” Noorulla obliged and kidnapped a child and handed him over to Khanum. After getting the baby she shaved his head to make it difficult to recognise the child.
