This is the second year of the signal school when the children are celebrating the spirit of Diwali on this scale. New clothes, delicacies, lantern prayers all that the children get to enjoy when they have better financial background.
Thane : You might have seen them selling fancy items of Diwali on the signals. They come running to your car and urge you to buy many of the items for decor of your home. Two years back, the items in their hands changed and they were given slates and pencils. The unique project of Thane signal school has given a way of learning, educating to these children of Signal. This is a second year where they will be celebrating the Diwali in a traditional way and indeed that is memorable one.
Thane signal school has become a role model for the education system in India. The school was started for the signal children by an NGO Samarth Bharat Vyaspith that gave the street children right to education. The Thane Municipal Corporation provided them a container and the very first school began in the container. This is the second year of the school when the children are celebrating the spirit of Diwali on larger scale. New clothes, delicacies, lantern prayers, making and decorating forts all that the children get to enjoy when they have better financial background. The children here celebrated this joy with the zeal.
“The celebration here is beyond the imaginations. Two years back, we just used to look at other children celebrating all the festivals. The school not only gave us the opportunity to learn but also showed what celebrations are. We made forts here. We have new clothes and loads of Mithai.” * year old Nikita was beamingly dancing around in her new clothes.
There are many who are willing to share the joy in the school and they come forward with unique ideas and donate things that make the world of these small enthusiasts richer, said Bhatu Sawant, CEO of Samarth Bharat Vyaspith. Bhatu who had conceptualised this school , had seen the children on the signal and wanted to do something for them. Thus the school had started and the street children got their right of education.
Diwali celebration began two days back by cleaning and making rangolis, forts by the children themselves. The children painted on the walls to welcome Diwali. On Saturday it was the special day as the real celebration began with lantern Prayers. and some crackers along with dignitaries. The children enjoyed their feast as well.
There were celebrations around the town as the school will close and various institutions arranged special fun fairs for the children from the economically weaker sections and also for the special children.
Thane Zilla parishad office had arranged a special fair and provided a stage for special children to sell their products. The products were made by them with great efforts and that boost the confidence of special children.
A kinder garden school arranged a special rally to create an awareness about smoke free diwali and small children participated in the rally displaying the boards that mentioned the evils of pollution caused by crackers.
