Gurgaon: The public works department (PWD) took just two days to repair a road, which had been lying in shambles for many years in Fazilpur, to make sure that minister Rao Narbir Singh has a smooth ride, underlining the fact that if there is will, it doesn't take long to get the administrative wheels rolling.
However, when the minsiter arrived on Saturday, the residents spoilt the party for the department, when they asked the minister, who was on his way to address a public gathering in South City 2, to take another route, a road filled with potholes, so that he understands their daily plight.
The bumpy ride apparently prompted Rao Narbir to assure the residents, who had came from Sector 10, South City 2, Vatika City, that the repair and construction work for the roads in the city will begin by next month.
"We will ensure that roads across the city are free from potholes and the work for the same is likely to start by November 10," said Singh.
According to the minister, the state government is running a project to repair roads and the pilot for the project will be held in Gurgaon. The work for the road repair and construction work will be allocated to a single agency.
During the day, Singh also visited CHD Avenue in Sector 71. The residents from CHD Avenue have been long complaining about the condition of their roads and had ran a campaign on Twitter regarding it.
"The minister has assured us that the work on 11ft revenue road will start within a month and the construction of the sector road will also begin soon," said Ravi Mohan, a resident, CHD Avenue.
Apart from the announcement, the minister heard the grievances of the residents. A few of the issues raised by the residents included encroachments along Sohna Road, sanitation issues, sewage connections, storm water drainage.
Another significant issue raised was by South City 2 residents regarding the MCG takeover of the private colony.
"We raised multiple issues with the minister regarding roads and MCG takeover. He told us that the takeover process will only finish by the end of this year," said K K Singh, RWA member, South City 2.
The minister also told the South City 2 residents that the roads in their society will be repaired irrespective of the fact whether the area comes under the developer or not.
