BENGALURU: In separate incidents on October 5 and 6, the staff of St John’s Hospital discovered two five-month-old female foetuses. The first one was dumped in a public toilet outside the hospital emergency ward and the other in the sanitation tank.

The campus is spread over 144 acres and hospital authorities said though major entrance and exit points are covered with CCTV cameras, not all areas are covered. Police have asked the hospital to do an autopsy and collect DNA samples of the foetuses, which the hospital has done, medical superintendent Dr Sanjiv Lewin told Express on Friday. The hospital has submitted a list of pregnant women who visited their facility on those dates, he said. “As a Catholic institution, the hospital does not do abortions,” he said.
Koramangala police said, “We have issued a notice to the hospital. They are yet to reply. We have registered two FIRs.”

According to the FIRs, copies of which are with Express, around 3.30pm on October 5, plumber Shanthakumar) went to unclog the toilet and found a foetus there. Around 1:30 pm on October 6, cleaner Harish HP found another foetus in the sewage treatment plant water tank, but the complaint was filed only the next day.
