Inland waterways to be developed in Vijayawada: AP CM

Chief Minister on Saturday said that inland waterways will be developed in Vijayawada as major means of transport.

Naidu said, "Inland waterways will be more economical, and eco friendly. The will develop them as major transport means. The city has three major canals. They need beautification."

The Chief Minister also informed that the has decided to opt for light metro for Vijayawada.

He was talking to media after conducting surprise inspection around the city.

"I wanted to check the status of Vijayawada city, so took up surprise inspection. I checked parks, roads, drains, VAMBAY Colony houses. I found some problems and instructed officials to resolve," said Naidu.

He said that the will build 14,000 more houses to resolve housing problems.

"There are 4000 houses at various levels of construction. They will be completed soon. We will build 14,000 more houses in 70 acres. With that, housing problem will be resolved," said Naidu.

He also added that there are almost 55,000 houses that need to be regularised and given pattas.

The Chief Minister also said that two lakh metric tonnes of garbage is accumulated at a place that "will be taken to garbage treatment plant soon, otherwise it will become a menace if left as it is".

Talking about roads, Naidu said, "Roads are good, but they can be bettered. Road widening is needed."

The Chief Minister said the building of general hospital will be expanded.

"At general hospital, occupancy is growing day-by-day. The health services are good, but we will expand the hospital buildings. Landscaping and beautification will make hospital much attractive. Wherever needed, outsourcing is being done," said Naidu.

He said that Vijayawada was once know for notorious gangs long back and now also some people are trying to create ruckus but

"Vijayawada was known for notorious gangs long back. Now, some people are trying to create ruckus, but I won't spare such action. Peace and prosperity are my priorities, said Naidu.

The Chief Minister warned the officials of stern action if they don't work fast and efficiently to implement orders.
