
In an encounter early morning on Saturday, two terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-backed militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were killed by the security forces in a fierce gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama. One of them was Waseem Shah. As per a report by PTI, Shah is believed to be LeT’s local area commander who was planning an attack on the security forces along with his aides including Hafiz Nisar. The report quoted Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid, terming Shah’s killing as a huge success since he was involved in many cases and recruitment of Kashmiri youths for ‘jihad’. 1. As per a PTI report, Wasim Shah was born in a middle-class family of Gul Mohammed Shah, who ran a fruit business. Wasim Shah was an active supporter of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group since his school days.
2. A college dropout, Shah, was a resident of Heff-Shrimal in Shopian. He is reported to join the militancy in 2014 and was considered as the master planner of last year’s unrest in various parts of South Kashmir, as per the report.
3. Wasim Shah carried a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. As per the J&K police, he was recruiting fresh cadres for the militant outfit
4. As per a report by PTI, Jammu and Kashmir police have been tracking the movements of Wasim Shah since 2014.
5.Waseem Shah is believed to be the top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, as per media reports. He was a militant of A++ category and was active since 4 years.
Wasim Shah (aged 23), also known as ‘Abu Osama Bhai’ was killed at Litter area in Pulwama in the first counter-insurgency operation in Litter area in four years. Security forces launched an operation in Litter area of Pulwama Saturday morning following information about the presence of the militants in the area, a police official said, as per a PTI report. The other slain militant has been identified as Nisar Ahmed Mir.
