JAIPUR: After 21-year-old Manan Jain was declared brain dead, his family donated his heart, liver and two kidneys to save the lives of four patients suffering from the failure of various organs in a private hospital in Jaipur as well as a hospital in Delhi.
The family, which resides in Malviya Nagar, took the brave decision to donate the organs of Manan, who had joined a telecom company after completing his graduation only recently.
It was not a tough decision for the family as they believe in serving those in need. Manan's father has donated blood 50 times, and has been doing so since he was 18. "When the doctors told us that it was difficult to revive Manan and declared him brain dead, we immediately decided to donate his organs. It was the decision of the family," said Rakesh Jain, Manan's father.
Manan met with an accident when a car hit his bike on JLN Marg near World Trade Park on October 8. He was going to his office when the accident took place. He was rushed to Jaipuria Hospital but the the doctors referred him to Sawai Man Singh Hospital. The family took him to a private hospital, where he underwent treatment for six days. But, his condition did not improve. "He fell unconscious after the accident and did not regain consciousness," said Jain.
"The accident happened six months after he joined for the job. He was expecting a promotion after Diwali. He had shared this with us. It was unfortunate that he had to leave us at this young age," said Jain, who is an electric contractor.
Mohan Foundation and Jaipur Citizen Forum helped the family to donate the organs. Since there was no suitable recipient for his heart, the doctors sent it to a private hospital in Delhi to transplant it in a patient suffering from heart failure.
While his kidneys were transplanted in the city, his liver was transplanted in a patient suffering from chronic liver disease in another private hospital.
The family, which is till mourning the death of their son, feels that Manan would remain alive through these people who have received his organs.
