CHENNAI: Treatment for dengue-affected persons at ICUs in government hospitals are covered under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Scheme, the Health Secretary and the Corporation submitted in counter-affidavits in the Madras High Court, on Friday.

The counter was filed in response to a PIL from advocate A P Suryaprakasam of Royapettah, who sought a direction to the government to provide treatment at the ICUs in private hospitals and reimburse the cost from the government.

The counter stated that the government’s medical facilities are well equipped to give the required treatment. The government is taking all efforts to sensitise the public about dengue prevention. The State insurance scheme is a cashless facility under which no target is fixed.

The assistance includes reimbursement of expenditure incurred. Basically, the scheme aims at giving a target group high-end surgeries and treatments in the empanelled government and private hospitals. The insurance coverage ceiling is Rs 4 lakh per family for five years. Under the scheme, treatment at ICUs in the empanelled private hospitals for dengue complications like shock dengue syndrome are already covered.
