FIR registered after complaint by assistant engineer

A day after the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) filed a complaint against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Narayan Dutt alleging assault, the Delhi Police registered an FIR in connection with the case.

The complainant, an assistant engineer, alleged that the MLA assaulted him and other officials, and also attempted to stop a demolition drive in Hari Nagar. The police said they received a complaint stating that Mr. Dutt obstructed the officials in discharging their duty.

Demolition duty

“The complainant said he, along with 10-12 labourers, had gone to carry out a demolition programme at CGM School but Mr. Dutt and others stopped them and assaulted them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Romil Baaniya.

Sources said that he had intervened because as a poor man’s house was being razed and as a legislator it was his responsibility to help him.

The FIR was registered under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention).

Investigation has been taken up, said Mr. Baaniya.
