India’s opening batsman Gautam Gambhir is celebrating his 36th birthday on Saturday. The southpaw who has scored over 10,000 international runs for India, helped the country lift the World Cup twice in his career. Many former and current Indian cricketers took to Twitter this morning to wish the Kolkata Knight Riders captain. Harbhajan Singh asked his former teammate to enjoy his day to the fullest. “Wishing a fantastic birthday to @GautamGambhir! Enjoy your day to the fullest. God bless!” he posted on Twitter. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer and legendary batsman VVS Laxman shared an old image with Gambhir and wrote, “Wishing you a very Happy Birthday @GautamGambhir . May you have a great year ahead.”

Among the current generation, India’s new spinning sensation Kuldeep Yadav who also plays under Gambhir in the Indian Premier League wished his captain a lot of success. “Wish you a very Happy Birthday @GautamGambhir bhai. May God bless you with a lot of success, happiness n good health,” he wrote. Shikhar Dhawan who has spent most of his career playing with Gambhir for Delhi wrote, “Happy birthday gauti bhai @GautamGambhir ..have a great day ahead and all the best for #GGF.”

The Delhi-lad forged several successful opening partnerships with Virender Sehwag and helped India win several matches at home and away. However, he is best remembered for one of his most important knocks of 97 against Sri Lanka in the World Cup final (2011). Gambhir scored those runs under a lot of pressure and guided India to world cup glory after a span of 28 years. He has scored 5238 runs in 147 ODI matches at an average of 39.68.
