Mumbai : Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested two men with three country-made pistols and eight live cartridges near Pimpalgaon Baswat toll naka in Nasik district on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
A senior ATS officer said they both were about to deliver the consignment of illegal arms to a Nashik-resident Pankaj Gaikwad, who has also been taken into custody.
“On receiving a reliable information from ATS counterpart from a neighbouring state regarding illegal arms are being transportated from another state, the ATS Nasik Unit officers laid a trap near the Pimpalgaon Baswat toll naka in Nasik district on the intervening night of October 13 and 14,” he said.
“During the cheking of vehicles, it was found that riders of a two wheeler were carrying three country-made pistols and eight rounds of bullets,” said the ATS officer.
The officers arrested Abhidatta Khanderao Patil (23) and Hitesh Ratan Deore (24). Both are the residents of CIDCO, Nasik.
Detailed panchanama was made out and weapons and vehicle were seized. A case has been registered under relevant sections of Arms Act at ATS Kalachauky police station.
“During enquiry with them, it was revealed that Patil and Deore were going to supply these weapons to Pankaj Gaikwad of Nasik. He was also taken into custody.
All three were produced before holiday court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) and were remanded to police custody till October 20. Further investigations are in progress.
The investigators are probing if they have any criminal antecedent or part of any terror organisations.
