Coimbatore: A day after the Times of India reported about the bad upkeep of city corporation office premises, senior engineers on Saturday instructed officials to speed up the process of disposing discarded furniture.
"I issued a note to the engineers on Saturday to speed up the tender process and complete it within 10 days. I have also asked the health wing officials to constantly keep a watch on the discarded vehicles to ensure mosquitoes do not breed there. Also, the holes on the roof of the storeroom will be closed and we would ensure that water does not stagnate in the rooms," corporation deputy commissioner P Gandhimathi said.
An engineering wing official said they have to follow the due process, issue advertisements and then call for tenders to complete the works. "This process takes some time. But, it will be sped up," he said.
Health wing officials and sanitary officials conducted an inspection on Saturday morning and cleaned the office. "We have instructed the officials to clean the office premises every day. This is part of the routine process. We inspect wards in all zones as well. Even on weekends, officials conduct inspections. On Saturday alone, we have fined several residents to the tune of Rs 10,000," said a sanitary officer.
