Jaipur Development Authority razes remaining shops amid protest in Gopalpura

JAIPUR: Amid mild protest, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) on Saturday removed shops which were not demolished earlier due to certain legal hurdles on Gopalpura Bypass. As all the constructions have been removed, now roads are open for JDA to start construction for widening of Gopalpura Bypass.

The shops which were removed were constructed near Gopalpura flyover. Since, the traders protested against the demolition, the JDA officials took help of the police to ensure that the drive would end peacefully. As there were large numbers of policemen deployed at the spot, the traders did not intensify their protest. At one point of time, the traders tried to intensify their protest but the policemen prevented any kind of hindrance to demolition work of shops.

Before stating the demolition drive, the JDA officials stopped movement of traffic from one side of the road and diverted the traffic. They stopped the traffic from Tonk Road heading towards Sodala.

However, Tonk Road witnessed frequent traffic congestions due to JDA's work for demolition of shops. It took almost six hours for the traffic police to ensure smooth movement of vehicles on Tonk Road.

Agitating traders sought help of MP Ramcharan Bohra demanding compensation and rehabilitation for them.

Besides, protesting against acquisition of land for JDA's one of the biggest housing scheme, Ninder Bacho Kisan Yuva Samiti, will intensify its protest.

Farmers, who have taken 'zameen samadhi' demanding de-acquisition of land, will now increase number of zameen Samadhi up to 250.

"On Sunday, more than 800 families will take part in protest and take 'zameen Samadhi'," said Nagendra Singh, co-ordinator, Ninder Bacho Kisan Yuva Samiti.

Singh said that at a time when the entire country is making preparation for celebrating Diwali, at the same time, the farmers of Ninder are protesting to save their land by taking part in zameen Samadhi. They appealed to the government for justice.

Singh said that the famers will continue their satyagrah. The government is testing patience of the farmer. But, the government does not know that farmer may go up to any extent to save their land.
