Faisal, Shaikh emerge as champions

Qamar emerged as the champion as his opponent Mohit Mayur Jaiprakash conceded the match die to injury. Humera claimed the title with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win over fifth seed Soha Sidiq of Karnataka.

Top seed Faisal Qamar and Shaikh Humera claimed the titles in the men’s singles and women’s singles categories respectively in the State Tennis Championship and CLTA-AITA Championships Series (CS-7) at CLTA Tennis Courts on Friday. Qamar emerged as the champion as his opponent Mohit Mayur Jaiprakash conceded the match die to injury. Humera claimed the title with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win over fifth seed Soha Sidiq of Karnataka.

In the men’s final, Qamar started the match with confidence and took a 4-2 lead in the opening set. The top seed as 0-30 down in the set when Jaiprakash conceded the match due to an injury. The women’s final between Shaikh Humera from Telangana and Soha Sidiq of Karnataka saw both the players matching each other. Humera won the opening set 6-1 as she conceded only one game in the set. The second set saw Sidiq making a comeback and the Karnataka player won the second set 6-4 to equalise in the match. Playing with control in the third and final set, Humera won the set 6-2 to claim the title.

In the boys’ singles U-14 final, CLTA trainee and fourth seed Parth Goel ended the challenge of Samar Bir Sidhu of Punjab with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Goel made a confident start as he won the first set 6-1. Goel grabbed the second and final set 6-3 to win the title. It was joy for CLTA trainee Harnoor Kaur Sidhu in the girls’ U-14 final as she scored a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win over eighth seed Shreya Gautam of Tamil Nadu. Sidhu won the opening set 6-4 before claiming the second set 6-3 to win the title.

In the men’s doubles final, the top seed duo of Anvit Bendre of Maharashtra and Ankit Chopra of Punjab emerged as the champions with a fighting 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win over Rohan Bhatia of Maharashtra and Anurag Nenwani of Delhi. Meanwhile, CLTA trainee Prinkle Singh and Kaavya Sawney won the girls’ U-16 doubles title with a win over Tanisha Kashyap and Prerna Vichare with a 0-6, 7-5, 10-4 in the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championships being played in Delhi. Singh also sailed in the girls’ U-16 final with a win over Vichare in the semi-final. Another CLTA trainee Krishan Hooda also entered the boys’ U-14 final with a 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over Dhruv Tangri.
