The year 2017 might not have been a great one for the Hindi Film Industry but it is definitely a lucky one for Rajkummar Rao. The versatile actor with movies like Trapped, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Newton has made it clear that his reign in the industry has just begun. It was only in September that we heard about Newton being India’s official entry in the Foreign Language Film category at the 2018 Oscars. And now it has been learnt that the actor is nominated in the Best Actor category at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) for his performance in Newton. Also, the Amit Masurkar directorial has been nominated for the Best Screenplay award.

The actor shared the news on his Twitter handle. He tweeted, “Happy to share tht I’ve been nominated 4 best prfrmnc by an actor in d prestigious #AsiaPacificScreenAwards for #Newton also #BestScreenplay.” In an earlier interview, the actor himself has said that “2017 is really exciting year for me, I think one of the most important years of my career.” We totally agree with you Rajkummar!

APSA is an initiative of Brisbane City Council through Brisbane Marketing in collaboration with international partners UNESCO and FIAPF-International Federation of Film Producers Associations. Its main aim is to honour the movies, actors and filmmakers of Asia-Pacific region.

Newton, which hit screens on September 22, revolves around a government clerk who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting in a Naxal-controlled village. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav, Anjali Patil, Danish Hussain and Sanjay Mishra. Rajkummar fitted in the role of Newton like a glove and made the audience go gaga over his talent of getting into the skin of every character he plays. We can’t forget him being the talking point after the release of Bareilly Ki Barfi despite Ayushmann Khurrana being the lead in the film. His transformation from a naive saree-salesman to a man who brought the twist in the story.
