Ranchi Diaries Movie Review: A movie by the name ‘Ranchi Diaries’, which had aroused curiosity in its viewers because of the star cast, which included veteran actor and now the chairman of FTII, Anupam Kher, has failed to impress the audience. The movie was not at all captivating and has been a failed attempt to generate the genre of Anurag Kashyap – the ones on the lines of Gangs of Wasseypur. An Anupam Kher venture, written and directed by Sattwik Mohanty, the star cast included, Himansh Kohli, Taaha Shah, Soundarya Sharma, Jimmy Shergill, Satish Kaushik, Pitobash Tripathy.

As the name of the movie reveals, everyone in the movie was made to speak the local lingo and the actors couldn’t carry it off – it is an impossible task and asking for the same turned out to be counter-productive. The story revolves around a girl named Gudiya (Soundarya Sharma), who hails from the small town of Ranchi and aspires to become a pop sensation like Shakira. Anupam Kher plays the role of mafia don called Thakur Bhaiya. Gudiya, along with her friends plans a kidnapping, which goes wrong and later, comes up with the plan of robbery. Jimmy Shergill, plays the role of an inspector, called Lallan Singh.

You will find a few Naxals in the movie to give a glimpse of the local atmosphere. The movie tries to take you through the events in a light humour but fails to do so. With veteran actors like Kher and Satish Kaushik, the movie and its storyline failed to stand above the crowd and has been tagged as pointless.
