TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 12, 2017) - H. Lee Moffitt, the founder of Moffitt Cancer Center, will be honored with BioFlorida's Lifetime Achievement Award.
BioFlorida is the voice of Florida's life sciences industry, representing nearly 6,000 establishments and research organizations in the biopharmaceutical, medical technology and bioagriculture sectors that collectively employ nearly 83,000 Floridians.
This prestigious award recognizes an individual's outstanding leadership throughout their career that has significantly contributed to the growth of the industry. BioFlorida bestowed the inaugural award in 2013 to Phillip Frost, M.D., CEO and chairman of OPKO Health, Inc., and chairman of the Board of Directors of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries.

Lee Moffitt's many accomplishments as a member of the Florida House of Representatives and later, Speaker of the House, combined with his vision and commitment to build a best-in-class cancer treatment center in Florida, speak for themselves. He couldn't be more deserving of this year's BioFlorida Lifetime Achievement Award," said Nancy Bryan, president and CEO of BioFlorida.
So many lives have been affected by Mr. Moffitt's work, and it is because of his leadership that Moffitt Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, recognized as a major source of discovery and development of more effective approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Mr. Moffitt will be honored at BioFlorida's awards ceremony at 9 a.m. Oct. 17. This is part of the conference Oct. 15-17 at The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club recognizing BioFlorida's 20 years of advancing life sciences in Florida.
