Interestingly, the Sena candidate is the wife of sitting Sena party legislator Ashok Patil. Hence, the BJP has won the battle in Sena stronghold itself. According to political pundits, the win can be a great achievement for BJP in future, as chances are after two-and-half years the second largest party BJP in BMC can take help from another party like Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) or Congress to form there ruling in corporation or either claim for Mayor’s post.

After the Bhandup byelection, the tally of BJP corporators come to 82 which has come down to 81 after the death of Shaileja Girkar. If at all again at the place of Girkar if BJP bags the seat where re-elections yet to take, then the total would go uptil 83. While the ruling party Sena’s strength in BMC is 84 and it also has the support of few independent corporators.
