UoH student drowns in campus pond

A 21-year-old student of the University of (UoH) here "drowned" in a pond on the campus premises, police said today.

The incident occurred around 9 pm yesterday when Akash Sen Gupta, a first semester MA sociology student along with six other students went to Mushroom Rocks on the campus and apparently decided to go for swimming at one of the ponds, they said.


"At around 2100 hours his friends found Akash missing. They searched for him and found him in the pond and immediately shifted him to a private hospital for treatment where he was declared brought dead by the doctors," Gachibowli Police Station Inspector S Chandrakanth said.

Asked on reports that the deceased was allegedly in an inebriated state when the incident occurred, the police official said "we don't know but the group had consumed "

A case was registered and further probe is on.
